Our family have been immersed in the world of pottery for over 75 years. Creating with clay since 1945, we are a family business fired by passion, knowledge, and imagination. We craft pottery with a uniquely Australian spirit to be loved and enjoyed.

A love of pottery has been handed down from June Dyson to Robert Gordon and his children. This is a story unlike any other pottery in Australia...

1945 / WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

In 1945, June Dyson began her pottery with husband Colin Gordon. Called Dyson Studios, the pottery was set up in the bayside suburb of Black Rock.

June was somewhat of a renegade in the industry. She came from a hugely creative family, and was encouraged to pursue the arts from a very early age. She was the only female potter to attend her course at RMIT in the 1940's. It took tenacity and drive to run a pottery that provided for her family, and Colin and June managed this until they both retired in the late 1980's. June and Colin went on to provide for six children.

1970's / MOULDING A DREAM

The year 1978 saw June and Colin's youngest son, Robert 'Andy' Gordon, break away from the family pottery business and begin his own dream with his English wife Barbara. They set up a small pottery in a tin shed on their property in Gembrook and called it the Pack Track Pottery.

1980's / BUSINESS IS GROWING

By the 1980's, The Pack Tray Pottery was Gembrooks largest local employer, selling wares all over the country. It had finally outgrown its space and the pottery was moved from the small township to a large purpose built headquarters in Pakenham.

1990's / IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR

By the 1990's the pottery had developed into a large production pottery, employing over 35 staff. From supplying wares to Sunday tourists at the St Kilda markets, to providing some of the world's most reputable retailers and restaurants with quality ceramics, those early years spent as a studio pottery means we still place enormous importance on the craft.

In the late 1990's and year 2000, Barbara and Andy's children Hannah and Kate joined the pottery. Ten years later, eldest son Bobby came on board. It was at this time, in order to keep up with the times and the demand, Robert Gordon became not only a manufacturer of bespoke Australian Made pottery, but an importer too. Designs dreamed up at our Pakenham HQ are sent off shore to be made into the pieces that became part of the ever popular collections we are so proud of.

2023 / A FUTURE FIRED WITH IMAGINATION

Robert Gordon Pottery is now run by siblings and Directors - Hannah, Kate and Bobby Gordon. Passion for the craft has been handed down three generations.
