When local artistry meets community heart and art, magic happens. We're thrilled to announce an exciting partnership between Robert Gordon and Bunjil Place, the vibrant cultural hub of the City of Casey. This partnership celebrates the rich tapestry of local talent and our shared passion for creating memorable experiences.

The 2025 autumn program comes to life with Floribunda at the centrepiece - an exhibition organised by Bunjil Place in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria and curated by David Sequeira.

The title, Floribunda, Latin for many-flowering is a hybrid of ‘flower’ and ‘abundance’ Iand is an intoxicating larger-than-life mashup of floral imagery, design and motif drawn exclusively from the NGV Collection. Through its ‘Wunderkammer’ style of display, Floribundacelebrates and reimagines the nature and significance of one of Australia’s most important collections. Including Decorative Arts, Fashion and Textiles, Painting, First Nations Australia and Pacific Art, the selection of works spans multiple histories, cultures and art forms. Featuring poignant still life painting, couture embellished with swirls of floral pattern, and objects lavishly adorned with buds and blooms, Floribunda connects human experience with the beauty and poetic symbolism of flowers.

We have once again shared our collections with Bunjil Place, a refined edit of our most loved vases and table wear pieces enhancing the beauty and elegance of Floribunda complemented with Flowers Vasette’s exquisite florals.

This partnership underscores the importance of supporting local businesses and fostering community connections. Robert Gordon's commitment to quality and craftsmanship perfectly complements Bunjil Place's dedication to providing exceptional cultural and entertainment experiences and we are honoured to be a part of this exciting exhibition.

Q&A with David Sequeira, Curator

What was the inspiration for Floribunda?

I have had a lifelong interest in flowers and art. I grew up in Melbourne. The NGV was a place that I visited weekly as a teenager. It was a bit of a refuge for me. Sometimes I would visit just to spend a few minutes in a particular room, then I would get on with the rest of my day. Flowers touch the lives of so many people and as a result, everyone has a flower story that they long to share. I have many flower stories but for Floribunda, I have chosen to focus on how ARTISTS see and understand flowers.

How long did it take to conceptualize and bring the concept together?

As I mentioned, I have been thinking about flowers and art for a long time. When I was a child, I would never have imagined that I would curate one of the largest single loans from the NGV. I have been working with a team from Bunjil Place and the NGV for about 2 years. My vision for Floribunda was infectious. Everyone I spoke with had ideas about the project…which works could be included and themes and ideas that could be explored. In this sense, the exhibition curated itself.

What are your greatest influences?

I am deeply influenced by my family, friends and the world around me. I am only interested in making art and curating exhibitions that cut to the heart of what it means to be human. My list of influences is long and includes all kinds of music, other artists, museums, popular culture (including pop music, reality TV and fashion).

What do you hope visitors take away from Floribunda?

I hope that visitors get an understanding of the complex and diverse ways in which artists use flowers, Flowers can be used to communicate a myriad of ideas and feelings.

Q&A with Phil Comito, Flowers Vasette

Tell us about the inspiration behind the Floribundainstallation:

Our inspiration drew from the romantic and wild beauty of autumn gardens, celebrating the natural shift in seasons. We wanted the installation to feel abundant and textural, with layers of foliage and rich tones, echoing the warmth and craftsmanship of Robert Gordon ceramics.

A brief list of flowers included in the installation:

Rosehip, Antique Hydrangea, Gerberas, Roses, Marigolds, Gloriosa and Lotus Pods

Top tips for displaying flowers in Robert Gordon Tower vases:

1. Work with varying heights – the tall form of the Tower vase is perfect for linear stems like delphinium or branches of blossom.

2.Group a few stems together rather than overcrowding – the vase does the talking.

3. Use foliage to create a structure, then layer in your focal flowers for balance and drama.

Favourite Autumn flowers

We love working with Dahlias, Autumnal Foliage’s, Hydrangeas and Amaranthus in autumn – their textures and tones bring warmth to any space.
