Robert Gordon X Little Louli | Interview with Lucy Miller

For many years, Lucy Miller created products for her women's wear label Louli. It wasn't until Lucy had her first baby that she began to discover there was room in the market for something fresh and new in children's bed linen.

It's Lucy's children's range that has inspired our collaboration with her. Her hand printed designs sing of colour, light and love and are perfect for our Mini Hug Mugs and children's sets. A celebration of the little people.

We chat with Lucy about her brand and collaborating with Robert Gordon.

How/when did Little Louli begin?

Not long after our first baby came along (four years ago) I was getting itchy to start something new. Seeing a gap in the kids bedding market it seemed like the perfect fit! I found an amazing supplier of hotel quality cotton bed linen in Melbourne and was so excited that I could have the product made in Australia, and then screen print it here by myself in my studio, it's a special thing!

I wanted to produce something clean and simple design wise, not so busy, and lovely and fresh but still appealing to kids with the drawings and designs they love.

What do you love most about what you do?

I really enjoy keeping the design side of my brain ticking along, in between the home life side of things, it's good to know you can still produce something creative! I have a beautiful big old studio space which I rent and I just love spending time there. I don't get there often but it's lovely to have some 'me' time and I feel very lucky to have my own business that works in around the kids.

Top tips for styling kid's bedrooms?

Well I'm definitely a ''more is more' type of person! I love it all, garlands, lamps, rugs, framed art, cushions, wallpaper, fairy lights, just keep on adding! And don't be limited to kids art, there's so many other amazing artworks out there that work so well in kids rooms. It changes everything.

What was the inspiration behind the collaboration with RGA?

Both Kate and I wanted to use a few of the favourites from my Bedding range for a range of fun but simple and classic children's ceramics. They are just so gorgeous! I couldn't have imagined they would be so lovely, and can't wait to replace all the plastic for these pieces! The mini mugs especially are just so cute for little hot chocolates at home with their friends. Love them!

What's next for Little Louli?

I am working on an exciting project for the Mums actually! A new women's t-shirt brand called Lucky co. Way back, straight out of university, I started printing tees under the label Louli and after a big break from it, the time is right to release them again! I'm always working on new things for the kids bedding too and released another new cot sheet design last week. They are so popular and people love that you can customise them. The mind is always ticking!
