AW22 - Developing Matte glazes for Australian Made

The making process behind these finishes

2022 heralds a new era here at Robert Gordon. For the first time in the company's 70+ year history, we are able to supply matte glazes from our Pakenham Workshop. One year in the making, the new matte glazes, Milk and Chai, are the result of countless tests and hundreds of samples, created by our Ceramic Engineer Melissa Farrell. Due to the unpredictability of Gas Kilns, a matte finish has eluded us, however, a recent investment in an electrical kiln (to be off-set with solar) has meant that we have a more controlled firing and are able to produce the more temperamental matte glazes. The future looks bright (and matte)!

Milk is an effortlessly classic, matte white glaze, that has been designed and developed to suit any interior.

Chai is an earthy, matte finish, with soft oat tones and iron speckles. It is crafted by hand, resulting in beautiful, unique variations from piece to piece.
